Osteoporosis And Critical Illness Cover
Osteoporosis is more likely to be suffered in women rather than men but in can occur in both genders and it is where your bones become very brittle. Your body continues to grow in its bone density until you reach the age of about thirty. This can vary depending on the area in question as your hip will continue to grow beyond what your hip does. Any person may not realise this at the time, however when women get older this bone mass more quickly than it would typically do in men but it happens to everyone after the age of about forty five. It has been identified that exercise will help to increase your bone mass, and even though some people do not do exercise on a daily basis it is recommended that this should be done a regular basis for at least twenty minutes at a time.
You may not notice the change but in the long term you are more likely to have a greater bone mass if you do exercise rather than none at all. Exercise may not be something you enjoy or wish to do take up but even a walk out will do you some good and it is never too late to start. When you are young people always encourage you to drink plenty of milk to keep your bones strong and healthy, but as you get older you should still try and get calcium into your diet as much as possible. You will also get a good calcium intake from eating cheese or any other product that contains milk for example. It is possible for some people to not be able to drink milk and therefore may need to take calcium supplements and it may also be wise to reduce you alcohol intake at the same time as alcohol reduces you bone mass. Other factors which will hinder your growth in bone mass, is smoking and caffeine. There are lots of people all over the world who love to eat meat, but meat increases the rate of which calcium is absorbed, however it is overtaken by the rate at which protein increases the excretion of calcium so if you struggle with your calcium intake then you may want to reduce the amount of meat you eat. Also a high in fibre diet may also reduce the rate of which calcium is absorbed.
Your bones are very important as they are the structure of your body, therefore they need to be taken good care of, because if you bones do become brittle and this may happen with age if you were to fall over the likely hood of breaking a bone increase dramatically. This will cause severe pain and disruption as you may need an operation such as a hip replacement. Osteoporosis is not a critical illness however it does have similarities to a critical illness such as arthritis which is defined as a critical illness in the Critical Illness Cover industry, if it is particularly severe.
